Unlock Your Most Productive Self in Just 3 Days: Say Goodbye to Procrastination & Hello to Unstoppable Success

Warning Will Robinson: An Overdose of Screen Time is Killing Your Spirit (Slowly But Surely)

Have you been giving away your attention for free? What has it gotten you? An economy based around draining your money, time, and attention for the benefit of a few shareholders. Your attention is worth gold, and in this new economy, it's worth more than gold. Remember, where your attention goes, energy flows.

Hi, I'm Aaron M Clay, a neurodivergent Light Warrior sharing my personal spiritual journey tailored for minds that wander among the stars. Today, I want to talk about digital detoxing and some of the accommodations I've made for my neurodivergent mind.

Why is a Digital Detox Important?

There's ample research showing the detrimental effects of excessive screen time. Increased screen time can lead to poor sleep, cardiovascular risk, impaired vision, reduced bone density, and a diminished attention span.

Digital Detoxing for Neurodiverse Minds

Digital detoxing simply means taking planned time away from technology that constantly demands your attention. There's no one-size-fits-all approach, but here are some tips with neurodiverse accommodations in mind:

  • Start with a Time Frame: Begin with a short, achievable detox, like 3 days over a long weekend. Gradually increase the duration as you get comfortable.
  • Declutter Your Notifications: Turn off ALL unnecessary notifications. This might be challenging, but it allows you to reclaim control over your attention.
  • Put the Phone Away: Physically distance yourself from your phone. Place it in another room or put a "Do Not Use" sign on it to resist the urge to check it.
  • Pick Up These Things Instead: Fill your detox time with activities that nourish your mind and spirit. Read a book, engage in a creative hobby, spend time in nature, journal, or meditate.

Reintegration and Beyond

The most crucial part of a digital detox is the reintegration phase. Reintroduce technology slowly and mindfully, only adding back apps and notifications that truly serve your higher purpose.

Remember, you are the arbiter of your attention. Take responsibility, reclaim your power, and invest your attention in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.

Additional Tips for Neurodiverse Individuals:

Focus on Activities You Enjoy: Prioritize leisure activities that are genuinely fun and engaging for you, regardless of societal expectations. Embrace Nature: Spending time outdoors can be incredibly calming and restorative for neurodivergent individuals. Journaling: Journaling can be a powerful tool for processing emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations during a detox. Meditation: Meditation can help cultivate inner peace and focus, especially during the initial adjustment period.

Let's embark on this journey together! Share your experiences and ask questions in the comments below. There's a whole community out there ready to support you on your digital detox journey.
